Have you ever been to Beaufort? Think "Prince of Tides", "Big Chill" and the "Great Santini", all filmed in Beaufort. It is a small slice of forgotten land, paradise, retreat that is near Savannah and Charleston. It is so neat. The trees are covered with long stringy moss that hangs down to the ground. The marshes or lowlands are filled with grasses, and one island links to another in a network of bridges and parks. It is a special place taken out of history and it is slow in pace and living. There are many mansions that you can imagine Scarlett or her cousin danced in. From there to the present, block after block of shops and restaurants, and beautiful parks restored to the tune of $7 million.

We had such a great time. What a piece of paradise. We didn't even get over one tenth done as far as seeing things. It is surely a place I would recommend.

We got home today and are really glad to be at home again, but we could have stayed another week.My brother Garry and his wife Debbie, have really fixed that place up. It was adorable.

As for John and I, all is well. I have a heart doctor appointment tomorrow. So, unless anything is bad news, I will write again later. Barb

I haven't written in a while, so thought I would catch you up. Why is it when I used to have summers off, there were a few weeks for travel, then the rest of the time was spent catching up on chores at home and then getting your classroom ready? Well this summer, I feel I have spent the whole time at one doctor or another. Can you believe that people are already going in to school to get their classrooms ready? It just flew by. Actually, time is flying by.

John and I are getting ready to go to Beaufort to see my brother Garry his wife, Debby's second home. They bought it and fixed it up for a second retirement home. I have in the next few weeks, a back doctor appt., a mammogram, a heart doctor appt, and oncology appt., and on Sept. 7 a PET scan. I'm so much fun. This part of cancer is weird. You sit around and feel every ache and wonder if it is something brewing. I need to get over that.

Josh and Dina are doing great. They are fixing up their house and have been going at it for the past month. They are happy how everything is turning out. They painted the outside of the house and put in new doors to the pool. Next is the kitchen. I am happy that they are fixing it up. They have really made some major changes since it was purchased. John still does everything around here and his latest project is going to be a new carport. He is still in the planning stages.

I have heard from most of you over the summer and I know you have been busy, busy, busy. We are an exciting group of people. When you look at what we all do and what are plans are for recreation, it is astounding. We have a teacher of the year at a major university, we have a couple that went to Machu Picchu, two of us are waiting for our first little leager grandbaby. There has been a trip to the Vatican, to Canada to see a bed and breakfast they own, to Hawaii, to Cuba, to NY, and on and on. There is so much life and vitality in our group.

Well, I am off for my second round of sleeping. I miss all of you. Take care ....Love me. Barb
